Cafés, Restaurants, Pubs & Clubs

We have decided not to list individual cafés and restaurants in Wellington as, to be honest, we don't know of any in Wellington which do not welcome gay patronage

Cafés and Restaurants

Wellington is a vibrant and friendly city with a range of fresh cuisine and coffee houses to suit all tastes and budgets. Visitors and Wellington residents tend to dine/café and congregate in the popular Courtney Place, Cuba Mall (Cuba Street) and Lambton Quay areas. Wellingtonians also visit and enjoy other wonderful café/restaurants on the fringe of the city, waterfront or nearby suburbs.

There is a diverse range of places to choose from and Wellington residents are wonderful hosts to visitors and this creates a comfortable and safe environment within Wellingtons Cafes and Restaurants.

Pubs and Clubs

Wellington pub and club scene offers an eclectic variety of choices along with diverse peoples enjoying the ‘hospitality scene’ in Wellington.

On weekends, pubs and clubs close between 2.30 am and 3.30 am, although a very few close between 6.00 am - 8.00 am.

Generally, ‘hospitality’ staff and the general public are courteous and friendly creating a safe and lively environment for a ‘good night out’.

Many pubs and clubs offer live entertainment, all distinct and tailored to their pub or club, offering more options to those interested.

Gay and Lesbian oriented bars are listed on the Where to Go page.

Discrimination

If you do go to a venue that you believe has discriminated against you or has made you feel unwelcome simply because you are gay, please provide details so we can consider if some sort of action might be useful. If necessary please contact us here.
